Max was going to be leaving Chicago in less than a day. He would be going on a cross country road trip starting with Texas. He grabbed his suit case and started packing clothes for all kinds of weather. He packed a lot, not knowing how long he would be gone. He would stay at each destination for three days and continue on. Max wouldn’t be going alone though. His friend Josh would accompany him on the road trip.
Ring Ring Ring!
“Hey Josh”
“Hey man what time we leaving tomorrow?”
“Umm about 12:00 so be ready,” Max replied.
“Okay dude I’ll be there,” Josh said, “see you tomorrow.”
“Alright tomorrow then bye,” Max says and hangs up.
Max looks over his suitcase making sure he has everything.
“Yep, everything’s here,” he says to himself.
He takes one last look and heads to bed. The next morning he wakes up and gets ready. Josh arrives and they’re ready to head off, but they decide to grab some breakfast before they leave to discuss the plans for the road trip. They arrive at the diner at 11:00 am. They had an hour.
“Ok, the plan is to leave and head to Texas, stay three days and look around and go to our next locations alright?,” Max asks.
“Yeah dude I know,” Josh says annoyed,” we’ve gone over this a million times can we go now?”
“Fine let’s go,” he says.
Max and Josh start driving. So excited to actually be doing what they’ve talked about for the last year. It was boring actually. They did nothing but sit and listen to music while Josh belted out the lyrics at the top of his lungs. Three hours later they stopped for gas and a quick snack. That took about fifteen minutes and then they were on the road again. Four hours later they stopped at a Burger King for supper. Max gets a whopper while Josh gets chicken nuggets and plays with them like he’s still five years old.
“Man I can’t believe we are almost there,” Josh says excitedly.
“I know right Texas is going to be so awesome,” Max replies with a smile.
They finish eating and head out again. Max at the wheel and Josh in the passenger seat. An hour later, it starts to get dark Josh falls asleep instantly, snoring so loud that Max has to turn up the music to drown him out. Figuring that they could finish the trip tomorrow morning, Max stops to check into a hotel for the night. Waking Josh up he leads them to their room. He only paid for one room with one bed, so he and Josh would have to sleep together. That was kind of awkward, but they were so tired they didn’t care. Falling into a deep sleep almost immediately, Max wakes up the next morning refreshed and ready for the day. He and Josh drive five more hours slowing down only when they see the “Welcome to Texas” sign. They immediately find a hotel to check into, only to realize they had $50 bucks left and no luggage.
“Man we forgot the suitcases,” Max says disappointedly,” we have to go back.”
“I guess so,” Josh says sadly.
Piling back in the car, they head back to Chicago. Thirteen hours later they arrive at Max’s house.
“Josh, how about we wait and go next week,” Max asks,” we can load the car now so we know we have everything.”
He nods and we load up the car and go inside, ready and excited the trip next week.
