The Stranger

As he rode into town in his carriage, people turned and stared. He sat proudly in his nicest carriage adn tipped his hat to every female in sight. "Who is that?" some asked their friends. "I haven't a clue but isn't he handsome?" the others replied. There was no denying Sir Elliot had made quite an entrance.
Coming out of one of the dress shops, Amanda saw a new carriage going down the street. "I've never seen that carriage before. I wonder whose it is" she thought to herself. She turned to her best friend Bailey, who looked just as confused as she did.
"Do you know who that was" asked Bailey. "No, I don't know. I've never seen that carriage before" answered Amanda. Since neither of them knew, they left it at that and started down the street in the direction of the carriage.
As the two ladies came closer to the carriage, Bailey got a glimpse of the driver and she gasped. "What is it" Amanda asked sharply. "My goodness, would you look at him" was the reply.
Tall and broad shouldered, Elliot was across the street tying his horse to the post outside the general store. Bailey and Amanda were on teh other side of the street staring at him. Amanda took one look at that dirty blond hair she had known so well and almost collapsed.
"No" she thought. "That can't be him. It just can't be".
Bailey saw the look on Amanda's face. "What's wrong" she asked urgently. "Are you alright?"
"Do you know who that is?" Amanda asked in barely a whisper.
"No" Bailey answered slowly, still confused. "Who is it?"
"That" Amanda said aggressively "is Elliot".
"Okay. I still don't understand" said Bailey cautiously.
"You remember last season I courted a man named Elliot and I found out that he was having an affair with someone else?"
Bailey thought back. She did remember Amanda courting someone named Elliot. She gasped. "You mean" she looked quickly in his direction. "That's him?!"
"Yes it is. The very same. Oh, if my father ever finds out he's here, he'll kill Elliot. And that would just ruin my family. I can't let that happen" said Amanda.
"Well, what are you going to do?" Bailey asked anxiously.
"I've got to leave town" Amanda said plainly.
"WHAT?!" exclaimed Bailey. "You can't go! Where will you run to?"
"I've got an aunt in the next county over. I'll stay with her until he leaves. You will let me know when he leaves, won't you?"
"Of course I will" said Bailey. "Oh, I hope everything goes well for you"
"Me too" said Amanda.
So that evening, Amanda talked to her parents and they thought it would be a wonderful idea if Amanda would go and visit her aunt. Amanda packed her things that evening and by the next day at noon, she was in a carriage on her way to see her aunt. And on her way to getting away from Elliot.

  1. It has great dialogue, and good description. It could be an even better story, if it got addeed to more.

  2. I like your descriptiveness of Elliot, and the drama of the story ties me in and makes me want to read more about what happened between her and Elliot and the affair he had.

  3. I might expand on it at some point. I'm not sure though. But thanks for the comments.
